Historical wildland fire data for the state of Utah was not available in a centralized location; instead individual fire agencies maintained their own data. The Utah Forestry, Fire & State Lands (FFSL) Division of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) along with the Department of Geography, Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU) was in need of reaching out to each of these agencies to locate the wildland fire data and creating an interactive web application to view the historical wildland fires in Utah. Working with FFSL & NHMU, we reached out to fire agencies throughout Utah and used the collected data to create an interactive web application using ArcGIS Online. Python scripting was used to locate duplicate data points and polygons. FFSL made the final decision on deleting duplicate data points and polygons. This project was worked collaboratively with University of Utah students Christopher Gay and Matt Weilenmann.
